Performance management is the process of managing employees to achieve their optimal performance.

Clearly, your employees are vital to the successful running of your business, but also they generate a huge part of your costs, so it is important that their productivity is good. Employees need to be aware of your expectations, so they can fully contribute to the successes and objectives of your business.

The way you do this will depend very much on your business style and culture.  You may wish to have a traditional annual appraisal with a half-year review, for example, or your culture might mean that monthly check-ins with objective reviews will be a better fit.
